Thank you for choosing Kuruka, your personal memory companion. Your privacy is the foundation upon which this app is built. This Privacy Policy explains what information Kuruka handles and, more importantly, what it does not.

Our core promise is simple: Your data is yours. It lives on your device and is never shared with us or anyone else.

The Kuruka Privacy Promise

Kuruka is designed to be a private sanctuary for your thoughts and memories.

• 100% On-Device: All your journal entries, including text, photos, and metadata, are stored exclusively on your device's local storage.
• No Cloud Storage: We do not use any cloud servers to store your personal journal data.
• No User Accounts: Kuruka does not require you to create an account. Your data is not tied to an online identity.
• No Network Connection Required: The core functionality of the app works completely offline. The app does not require internet permissions to function.
• No Tracking or Analytics: We do not collect any data about how you use the app. There are no third-party analytics SDKs.

Information We Collect and Why

Kuruka only accesses data that is essential for its features to work, and only with your explicit permission.

1. Information You Provide Directly:

• Journal Entries (Text): The text you type for your journal entries.
  • Why we need it: To save your thoughts and memories as part of your journal.
  • How it's handled: Stored in a private, local database on your device.
• Photos: The photos you choose to attach to an entry, either by taking a new picture with the camera or selecting from your device's gallery.
  • Why we need it: To visually enrich your journal entries.
  • How it's handled: Stored in the app's private directory on your device, linked to the corresponding journal entry. Other apps cannot access these photos.
• Voice Notes (Audio Recordings): The raw audio files from your voice recordings.
  • Why we need it: To allow you to save and replay your memories in their original spoken form, capturing the emotion and tone of the moment. We also process this audio on-device to provide a text transcription for readability and search.
  • How it's handled: The audio files are saved in a standard format (e.g., .m4a or .wav) and stored in the app's private directory on your device, securely linked to the corresponding journal entry.

2. Information Collected Automatically (with your permission):

• Location Data (Optional): Your geographical location when you create an entry.
  • Why we need it: To automatically tag your entries with the location where they were created, adding valuable context to your memories.
  • How it's handled: We only access your location when you are creating an entry and only if you have granted location permissions. The location data is stored as part of the entry's metadata in the local database on your device. You can disable this at any time in your device settings.

How We Use Your Information

The information Kuruka collects is used exclusively to provide the app's features to you, on your device.

• To display your journal entries in a timeline.
• To allow you to search through your own entries.
• To organize your entries by date.
• To attach location context to your memories.

Data Storage and Security

Your data security is tied to your device's security. All your journal data is stored within the app's secure sandbox, managed by the Android Operating System.

• Text and metadata are stored in a local database.
• Photos are stored in the app's private internal storage.
• We recommend you secure your device with a strong passcode, PIN, or biometric authentication (fingerprint or face ID) to protect all data on it, including your Kuruka journal.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

Kuruka does not share your data with any third party. Ever.

Since all data is stored locally and the app does not have network permissions, it is technically impossible for us to access or share your journal entries.

Your Rights and Control Over Your Data

You have complete and total control over your data because it resides on your device.

• Access: You can access your data at any time by simply opening the app.
• Edit: You can edit any journal entry you have created.
• Delete: You can delete individual entries or all entries from within the app.
• Full Deletion: Uninstalling the Kuruka app from your device will permanently delete its private storage, including your entire journal database and all associated photos. This action is irreversible.

Children's Privacy

Kuruka is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe we may have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as we add new features (for example, in future phases that might include optional, encrypted cloud backup). If we make changes, we will notify you by revising the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy and, if the changes are significant, we may provide a more prominent notice within the app. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
